Melina Sophia Savino Santiago. Melina was born this morning (April 31st. 2007), at 7:49am. She weights 3,325 grams (7 lb. 5 oz.) and both mommy and Melina are doing very well.

Victoria Hospital - Karen in labor. Just a quick note. We are at the hospital, we were admitted around 7pm today. A few minutes after, Karen's water broke. The doctor told us the baby can come around 3am tomorrow. Karen is doing fine, taking a nap.

Hospital Victoria - Karen en labor de parto. Muy rapido les cuento que estamos en el hospital. Entramos a eso de las 7 de la tarde, y poco tiempo despues Karen rompio bolsa. El medico ya nos dijo que calculan que el bebe puede nacer a eso de las 3am.

No baby yet. Well, in case you are wondering, there is no baby yet. Karen started her maternity leave this Monday, hoping our baby will be born soon. But there is no news yet. Baby's due date is April 2nd so there is no reason to worry. We are just anxious! We can hardly wait. So keep checking this blog often because we'll let you know as soon as there is some news. El bebé que no llega. En caso de que se estén preguntando sobre qué está sucediendo por estos lugares, les queremos decir que aún no hay novedades y que seguimos en el dulce espera. Karen comenzó con su licencia el pasado lunes. Pensamos que el bebé iba a nacer esta semana. En realidad, la fecha estimada del nacimiento es el 2 de abril, así es que no hay motivos para preocuparse. Quédense pendientes de más noticias por medio de este blog! Aquí los iremos actualizando a medida que haya novedades. Saludos a todos!

Hola a todos:

Para mantenerlos actualizados, les contamos que aún el bebé no ha llegado pero ya estamos listos para que suceda en cualquier momento. El médico nos dijo este pasado miércoles (14/03) que ya estaba todo listo, que ahora es cuestión de esperar.

Los dos estamos muy ansiosos, como se podrán imaginar, pero no nos queda otra opción que esperar. Ya tenemos el departamento listo para cuando el bebé nazca. Como bien sabe, en las ecografías no se pudo establecer si es niño o niña, así es que esa va a ser una sorpresa para todos.

Trataremos de mantenerlos actualizados. Lo ideal es que revisen este blog con frecuencia, ya que desde el hospital es posible que tenga acceso a una computadora y esta es la forma más sencilla y rápida de hacer circular la noticia.

Dear family and friends,

We just wanted to let you know that there is no baby yet. We are ready for the arrival but we have to wait. Our doctor told us last Wednesday (March 7^th) that for at least a week and a half there won’t be any baby. Karen is feeling fine and we are both very excited. These last few weeks of the pregnancy have been a time of “nesting” because we want to make sure we have everything ready for when baby comes. As you already know, they could not see if we are having a baby girl or a boy so that is going to be another surprise.

Please keep checking this blog often because this might be the quickest way we have to communicate to everybody when the baby arrives.

Karen's Baby Shower

Today we had Karen's baby shower. We are so happy we had the chance to see family and friends in this special occassion for us. We want to thank our guests for their generous gifts. Our baby has an assortment of clothes for the first year as well as nursery items, toys, books, etc.

We had a very good time and we are glad we had the chance to see friends we have not seen in a long time.

We also want to thank Mom Josie and Romina for organizing the event.

Karen is doing very well and our doctor told us that the baby is getting into a good position for delivery.

Last Thursday we had our Hospital tour and we had the chance to become familiar with the place in which our baby will be born.

La "baby shower" de Karen

Queridos amigos y famila:

Hoy tuvimos la "baby shower". La verdad que la pasamos muy bien. Queremos agradecer muy especialmente a todos aquellos que nos han acompanado. Hemos recibido muchos regalos, asi es que el bebe ya tiene ropa para sus primeros meses, juguetes, cochecito, etc. Muchas gracias a mama Josie y Romina por organizar la fiesta.

El jueves tuvimos nuestro tour por el hospital, para familiarizarnos con las instalaciones. Karen se encuentra muy bien y, por lo que nos dijo el medico, el bebe tambien, ya acomodandose para el parto.

Hello again,
This is a new picture of our baby and it has been taken during Karen's third (and last) ultrasound last December 7th.
We thought we were going to be able to see if we are having a boy or a girl but we could not tell.
It seems we'll have to wait until April.
Karen has been feeling very well and we can both feel the baby move.
It is a very active baby for sure!

Esta es una nueva foto de nuestro bebé. La foto fue tomada durante la tercera y última ecografía que le hicieron a Karen el 7 de diciembre. A pesar de que queríamos saber si era varón o nena, no se pudo establecer, así es que parece que vamos a tener que esperar hasta abril.
Karen se siente muy bien y ambos podemos sentir los movimientos del - muy activo - bebé.

We are now at 18 weeks of my pregnancy. Well, according to my due date, it is 17 weeks but the ultrasound has it at 18 weeks. So, perhaps we may have a March baby! The baby is a mover and likes to change positions. The cutest I saw was its legs and feet, with the feet pressed against the wall as if it was getting ready to do a backflip! The hands were so defined and one was constantly playing with the umbilical cord. We have one photo of the baby sucking its thumb.

I am already showing well considering I'm only four months pregnant, but it's all good. I enjoy having a "belly" and just hearing the comments of me "glowing" is pretty awesome. So now the question is -- is it a boy or a girl?

We wanted to find out... I guess to help us prepare. If it is to be a boy, I would need to learn how to understand the other gender, and it is to be a girl, Lucas would have to be prepared in having a "Daddy's Girl". One thing we know for sure, are the names -- and we're not telling!

The plus of this pregnancy is that my in-laws are visiting us and it will be their first trip to Canada. It will also be the first time my family will meet them. I'm very excited and I hope that I won't be too exhausted to be a good hostess. But my mom (fingers crossed) may be around to help out. Please! :)

Anyway, please enjoy the ultrasound photos and please check out on our other photos recent travels (www.dropshots.com/karen_and_lucas). Lucas, Adele, Carl and I went to a corn maze in Belmont, Ontario. It was so much fun! We only got lost once but luckily made our way through.

Hola a todos! Esta es una nueva entrega. Hoy tuvimos la segunda ecografía, a las 18 semanas de embarazo. La mayor expectativa estaba puesta en saber si se podía establecer si el babé es varón o niña. Por ahora, nos quedamos con las ganas y debido a que esta fue la última ecografía, tendremos que esperar hasta que el bebé nazca para saber.

Karen se encuentra muy bien, disfrutando mientras siente que el bebé ya empieza a dar pataditas. Lucas aún está a la expectativa, ya que es muy pronto para sentir el movimiento del bebé desde afuera.

Hoy, como durante la ecografía pasada, el bebé no dejó de moverse. Incluso esta vez lo vimos "jugar" con el cordón umbilical. En una de las fotos, van a ver cómo se chupa el dedo.

De acuerdo a las medidas tomadas durante la ecografía, el bebé tiene una longitud de 11.5 centímetros. No estamos muy seguros si esta es la medida que nos dijeron, pero generalmente es acorde a esta etapa del embarazo.

Esta vez también pudimos ver los latidos del corazón, incluso de manera más clara que la última vez.

Ahora los dejamos con las fotos de la ecografía. Esperamos que las disfruten tanto como nosotros.
